I thought I’d start my blog with this question, because I still get asked this frequently. Well, one of the major reasons is because people expect it. Technology has changed the way people do business and find businesses to work with. A website gives credibility to your business. If you don’t have a website nowadays, people wonder if you’re even still in business.
Another reason is potential customers now want to know about your business before stopping in or calling. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, people are tied to their phones, and do almost everything on the internet. They want to be able to find the answers to most of their questions right at their fingertips. Your website can answer many of those questions: what are your hours, what does your business do, what products does your company carry, and maybe even, are those products in stock. That saves the customer the hassle of calling, and it saves you the time you would have spent on the phone. Customers can also find out the answer to these questions after hours, keeping your customers from getting frustrated.
In the long run, it will help cut costs. I realize the initial investment of a website is not something anyone looks forward to paying for. 🙂 However, in the long run, a website can save you money and, utilized properly, can even help you make money. Using your website to advertise promotions, collect email addresses for email marketing purposes, and it will let your customers know what is going on and when it is happening. You can inform your customers of important news and updates in your field, showing your customer that YOU are the expert they should be doing business with. You can also reach a wider audience (aka more customers!) because everyone can access your site; you’re not limited to just the people in your immediate geographical area.
